American Legion Post #70 Scholarship Fund
This permanent endowment was created in honor of American Legion Post #70, incorporated in 1943. At one time there were 300 members, all African American veterans living in the Raleigh County area. They have now merged with American Legion Post #32, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Post #70’s property was used to establish a need and merit based scholarship fund. Income will be used for an annual scholarship to a Raleigh County African American high school graduate, with preference given to descendants of American Legion Post #70 members.
