Planned giving is an excellent opportunity to leave a gift to the community by making provisions through your will.  Legacy gifts are extremely flexible and allow you to enjoy tax benefits while perpetually fulfilling your charitable interests. 

Some examples of legacy gifts include: 
Bequests – You can designate Beckley Area Foundation as a beneficiary of your estate, to receive a certain dollar amount or as the residuary or contingent beneficiary.  Such bequests are free of estate and inheritance taxes.

 Charitable Remainder Trusts – Allows you to receive the income of the trust during your lifetime, while ensuring the remainder of the trust (when  terminated) will be used to support your charitable interests.

 Life Insurance – It is possible to name BAF as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing insurance policy.

   BAF manages over 500 permanent endowments that benefit a variety of charitable organizations and scholarship programs.  A Will can direct assets to any of these existing endowments or create a new fund for the charitable purpose of the donor’s choice. These legacy gifts generate income forever.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible.  If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
