Eligibility

Woodrow Wilson High School graduating senior.
Based on financial need, academic ability, and participation in at least one school activity (sports, band, and clubs).

William Bales, a Beckley native now living in Williamsburg, VA created this endowment to honor his mother and father, Thelma and Woodrow Bales, and to recognize his siblings for their achievements after graduating from WWHS. The donor also hopes that this fund will recognize the faculty and staff at Woodrow Wilson High School who were such a positive influence on the Bales children, setting them on a course to success in the fields of business, government, medicine, and education. This fund will provide scholarship assistance for a college-bound WWHS senior.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible. If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
