Charlotte C. Staples Memorial Fund
This named unrestricted fund was started with a gift from the estate of Charlotte Staples, who died in June, 2011. Charlotte left testamentary gifts to several of her charitable interests as well as to a number of close friends. Her family home comprised a significant part of her estate. This shows that there are assets which can fulfill a person’s charitable wishes other than having stocks, bonds and cash. She was born in Stotesbury in 1921, the daughter of William T. and Sibbia Shumate Adams. She was preceded in death by her three siblings and her husband Arthur Staples. Charlotte worked at Eastern Gas and Fuel for 21 years and then began 20 years of employment with Sears. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, and the American Baptist Women.
