​D. K. Shroyer and Alma Davenport Shroyer Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Must be need based;
  • Recipient must be residents of Raleigh County, WV and have successfully completed two semesters of post high school college level work, demonstrating his/her ability to do this work and maintain a good academic standing;
  • Not specific to a particular college or university; but must be an accredited institution.

Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Gravely first created a scholarship fund at Beckley College in memory of his aunt, Mrs. Shroyer. Following her husband’s death, Beckley College started awarding a scholarship in Ken Shroyer’s memory using money from their general fund. The scholarship honoring Coach Shroyer was not endowed and eventually ceased to exist. Upon the closing of MSU, Dr. Gravely directed that the assets held by the Alma Davenport Shroyer Scholarship Fund be moved to BAF and use for a scholarship honoring both Ken and Alma. She taught in Raleigh County for over 30 years. Dr. Gravely noted, “This scholarship will forever honor their legacy of service and involvement with our youth and with education.” This need/merit based scholarship will benefit a resident of Raleigh County who has successfully completed two semesters of post high school college level work.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible.  If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
