Dr. Charles H. Polk Scholarship Fund
Dr. Charles Polk left his position as president of Daytona Beach Community College and moved to Beckley to become the president of Beckley College in July, 1990. The name of the school was changed to the College of West Virginia and then to Mountain State University. Enrollment increased, course offerings expanded and the physical plant grew significantly. Dr. Polk established an endowed scholarship fund through the MSU Foundation. When the school and MSU Foundation ceased operations in Jan., 2012, the assets held by the endowment were transferred to the BAF for a need and/or merit based scholarship for students attending UC-Beckley. Selection of recipients shall be at the discretion of UC-Beckley.
- Need and/or merit based;
- Southern West Virginia student attending University of Charleston – Beckley campus;
- College upperclassmen as well as graduating high school seniors who meet other selection criteria may apply.
