Eligibility
|
This scholarship fund will provide need based scholarships for graduating seniors of any public high school located in Raleigh County. Recipients must have excelled in math and/or science in high school and plan to major in math or science as they continue their education. This endowment, originally established at MSU, serves as a lasting memorial to Lanier File Ratcliffe and her husband Edwin. A Beckley native, Lanier graduated from WWHS and Randolph-Macon Women’s College with a degree in chemistry. She taught math, mostly at WWHS, for a total of 25 years. Edwin was an independent insurance agent from 1939 until he sold Beckley Insurance Agency in 1976. They had three children, Ann, Mary Claire and Edwin. When MSU ceased operations, the assets underpinning this fund were transferred to BAF.
