​Surayia T. Hasan ​Scholarship Fund

Eligibility
  • Both need and merit will be considered in selecting applicants;
  • Must be a  minority student from Raleigh County, West Virginia;
  • Pursuing either a masters in nursing degree, a nurse practitioner degree, or physician’s assistant degree at a West Virginia school, preferably in Raleigh County.

Established by her husband Dr. M. Khalid Hasan, M.D. upon the occasion of their 38th wedding anniversary, the annual income from this fund shall provide scholarships for minority students from Raleigh County in physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner programs. Surayia, an internist, and Khalid, a psychiatrist, have three children; Dr. Omar Hasan is a psychiatrist practicing with his father, Omar’s wife Irene Wasylk, M.D. is an internist practicing with Surayia; Ayesha K. Hasan, M.D. is a cardiologist at the Ohio State University School of Medicine, Rabiya K. Hasan, is a pediatric psychiatrist practicing in Columbia, SC with her husband Dr. Bryan K. Tolliver.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible.  If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
