Tracy and Martha Jane Riffe Fund
Mrs. Riffe donated the family home on Croft Street to the Beckley Area Foundation. By prearrangement, BAF immediately sold the property to United Way of Southern West Virginia at a price far below the appraised value. The dollars BAF received were used to create this permanent endowment that will generate annual income to help maintain United Way’s office. This transaction served to create a lasting memorial to the donor’s husband, assured her that the family home would be updated and maintained, provided a significant charitable deduction to be used to reduce federal tax liabilities and established an ongoing source of mortgage-free United Way office. A graduate of WWHS and Beckley College, and a WW II veteran, Tracy Riffe spent most of his professional career with Beckley Federal Savings Bank where he served as president for many years. Martha Jane Phipps Riffe was employed at Beckley National Bank for twenty years. Married for 64 years, they have one daughter, Sue Ellen, married to Clark Swepston of Flat Top.
