- Awarded on the basis of need and academic ability;
- West Virginia residents with preference being given to residents of Raleigh County.

Jon McBride, a graduate of WWHS who became an astronaut in the U.S. space program, established this fund to honor his parents and his son, Richard, a Navy pilot who lost his life in a tragic air accident in early 1992. The income provides a scholarship for students at WVU School of Engineering.
