COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund

BAF continues to respond to the consequences of COVID-19 and we are very thankful for the response we have seen from our community.

Donate online or make a check payable to Beckley Area Foundation with  CERF  in the memo line and mail it to Beckley Area Foundation, 129 Main Street, Ste 301, Beckley, WV 25801.

Donor advisors are encouraged to make donations directly to this fund. Please contact Rebecca Williams for balance inquiries. Please email   rebecca@bafwv.org    if you have any questions concerning contributions.
CERF Application

The Beckley Area Foundation has established the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund (CERF), which will provide resources to local nonprofit organizations working to provide aid to those impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.   Donations to CERF will support emergency needs identified by our nonprofit partners in human services, health, housing and education, and will make grants to nonprofits providing aid to impacted individuals and families in Raleigh, McDowell, Webster and Wyoming counties.

CERF is designed to complement the work of local public health, nonprofit and government entities, and to expand local capacity to support individuals and families experiencing hardship because of the outbreak and related closures and disruptions.

100% of donations will be used to support our communities. BAF is waiving the administrative fees that would normally be associated with CERF. Banking fees, including credit card transactions for contributions to   CERF, will apply.

FAQ

I’m an individual who’s been affected by COVID-19. Can this fund help me?
Clearly, individuals and families are affected by the outbreak. CERF is not designed to directly support individuals. Rather, CERF will support community-based nonprofits that, in turn, directly support individuals and families that are most affected by COVID-19 and its impacts in Raleigh County. If you are looking for resources now, please contact 211 for information about direct assistance organizations.

As a 501(c)(3) public charity, we are bound to follow the rules and guidelines contained in IRS Tax Code and US Treasury Regulations. As such, our grants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofits or other charitable organizations able to receive tax-deductible contributions, such as schools, faith-based organizations and other public entities. Under these laws and rules, we are not able to directly fund individuals, businesses, labor unions or other 501(c)(4), (5) or (6) organizations.

Should I give to this fund instead of making other donations to nonprofits?
CERF was not created to be the only way to get needed resources into the community, but to help channel resources that will have the highest impact into the community and to help facilitate coordination among entities.
We encourage you to connect with and give directly to any local nonprofit to which you are drawn. This is a critical time for so many nonprofit organizations, as well as those who have had to cancel events or depend heavily on public gatherings. Please continue to give to the organizations you regularly support and those that need your help, at this crucial time.

I want to donate. Can I restrict my funding to a particular grantee?
To ensure we move resources as efficiently as possible and respond to the needs of communities most impacted, we are not considering restricted donations at this time. The COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund was created in hopes of providing a way to coordinate as many resources as possible.
