Harry and Fonda Moran Fund
This unrestricted fund was established by former Mayor of Beckley, Emmett Pugh as a surprise for his wife Linda and sister-in-law Susan Lecher in honor of their parents, Harry and Fonda. Harry attended Fishburn Military Academy and received a business administration degree from Washington and Lee University before signing as a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He played from June 1912 to October 1915. After leaving the game, he worked in the coal industry. In 1941, he took charge of Leccony Smokeless Fuel Co. operations in Raleigh Co as the firm president. Fonda was a Registered Nurse, having studied at the historical Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery, WV. Both were committed to serving their community as members of Beckley Methodist Temple.
