Kimball World War Memorial Endowment Fund
For over 30 years, a group of dedicated McDowell County citizens have worked to restore the Kimball World War Memorial, a building designed in the classical Greek style by Hassell T. Hicks. The building is now once again open for public use and tours. The endowment will generate income to be used by the McDowell County Museum Commission to help maintain the building. Richard Abel, a VISTA volunteer in Welch, handled the organizational efforts to establish the fund; he generously made a personal donation, which qualified the effort to be considered one of BAF’s “Building Over Time” funds. Other generous gifts followed.
