Laura J. Word and Lamar Williams Fund

Past BAF board president, Jay Word, and his wife Lisa, utilized the Foundation’s “Building over Time” option to start a fund honoring Jay’s sister and her husband. It is becoming increasingly popular for people to establish named funds which receive charitable gifts honoring other family members rather than exchanging gifts during holidays and birthdays. Laura, daughter of one of BAF’s founders Jim Word, is a talented artist and animal lover. After retiring from her career as a federal arts advocate in DC, Laura and her husband, both avid golfers, now divide their time between WV and Fort Myers, FL.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible. If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
