Margaret Thorne  Dilley Scholarship for Science Teachers Fund

Eligibility:  
  • Equally weighted as a need and merit based award for a Raleigh County high school graduate with a 3.5 cumulative GPA;
  • Pursuing baccalaureate degree in education at an accredited institution;
  • Preference will go to students pursuing a science field including the biological, physical and natural sciences. If none apply with the preferences listed, mathematics will also be considered.

Margaret Dilley passed away on January 5, 2020.    Margaret graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school and continued her education earning a Bachelor's of Science   degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Mathematics from West Virginia Wesleyan College.   She entered Louisiana State University receiving a Masters in Microbiology and a minor in biochemistry.  She returned to West Virginia and completed the requirements necessary to earn a Bachelor's of Science in Education from Concord College allowing her to teach in West Virginia.    Margaret enthusiastically continued teaching by joining the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Program.  Over the years, Margaret earned numerous awards in CAP. Margaret was a devoted Christian and faithful servant to her Lord and Savior.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible.  If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
