Sterling “Dusty” Lewis III comes from a line of civic minded men. His grandfather Sterling Lewis Sr. was the owner and manager of the S & S IGA in Beaver, WV, a Raleigh County Commissioner in the early 1970s, and he served in the WV House of Delegates between 1975 and 1980. Dusty’s father, Sterling Jr. was an educator and coach at Shady Spring High School for 26 years. He also served two terms in the WV House of Delegates, was the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Chief for 20 years, and was the WV State Fire Marshal for 13 years.
To honor their lives and memories Dusty utilized BAF’s building over time option to establish a scholarship endowment in their shared name. Its purpose is to assist individuals from the Shady Spring area pursuing a career, credentialing or specialized professional training in areas of public safety, entrepreneur or real estate/land management.
