This scholarship fund was established in memory of Raymond and Louise Stoutamyer, a local couple who dedicated nearly 40 years to the education of students in Southern West Virginia. Raymond, also known as "Pody", taught science & biology at both Pineville and Oceana High School. Louise (Gunter) Stoutamyer taught English at Pineville Middle School and worked for the Wyoming County Board of Education. Both were awarded Teacher of the Year honors by the state and served as mentors and friends to generations of students.
Their family hopes that this scholarship fund will enable students on their quest for higher education, reduce their financial hardship and allow the Stoutamyer legacy of education to live on for years to come.
The renewable scholarship will be for matriculating seniors from Wyoming East HS, financial need based with a minimum of 3.0 need to apply with an emphasis on good citizenship/good student behavior. It may be used at any accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.
