Eligibility

Educational merit and athletic participation;
Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
A matriculating senior from a public Raleigh County High School;
Four-year degree at Concord University, Marshall University or Virginia Tech.

This scholarship fund was established in 2023 in memory of Jack Jordan Roop and Mary Frances Roop. The Roop’s instilled in their three children the value of an education, the importance of contributing to one's community, and most importantly God's calling to serve others. Therefore, the children of Jack and Mary Frances Roop are committed to establish a scholarship in memory of their beloved parents. Carl "Bill", Mary Jacqueline, and Jack "Gordie" desire the proceeds from this fund be given to a deserving young person from Raleigh County to further their college education.

Confirmed in Compliance with National Standards Beckley Area Foundation is a member of the National Council on Foundations, Philanthropy WV, Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Charitable Gift Planners of WV and WV Nonprofit Association. The Foundation will make available for public inspection the last three years of its tax documents, including Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-T (if applicable), any audit, and its tax exempt letter. If the request for any of these documents is made in person, the requested documents will be provided on the day of the request if possible. If the request is in writing (including email), copies will be provided within 30 days of the request. The requestor may be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of copying, plus storage. Questions concerning documents should be addressed to either the Executive Director or Board Chair of the Foundation.
