In 2004, Beckley Area Foundation was approached by Webster County Project Coordinator Paula Green with the concept of a community fund for her county. Organized to accept donations, create endowments and distribute grants for the benefit of the people of Webster County, the Webster County Community Fund has blossomed.
Economic Development Authority Executive Director Geary Weir has seen the work and generosity of the residents, both current and past, bolster this concept to cultivate 11 individual perpetual funds. Harry H. Harkins Jr. is the most recent donor, establishing two separate endowments. The Cutlip-Harkins Scholarship Fund will benefit a matriculating senior of Webster County High School pursuing a post-secondary education. The Cutlip-Harkins Endowment for Webster County, a discretionary fund, will support the grant program for emerging needs and projects within the county....
